Care Brazil
CARE started working in Brazil in 2001 in response to the needs of a significant proportion of the population: 40 million Brazilians live in absolute poverty, out of a total population of 170 million. CARE is currently working on the renovation of a nature park in Sao Paulo. It also supports the creation of income-generating activities for local inhabitants as well landless small-scale farmers in the state of Bahia.

Carrefour mobilizes to bring help to the Chinese people
An earthquake with a magnitude of 7.8 on the Richter scale struck China on Monday 12 May 2008 (at 2.28 pm local time). The epicentre was close to Wenchuan in Sichuan province, in the south west of the country. When the catastrophe was announced on Monday evening, the Carrefour Group - via its International Foundation - paid a grant of 2 million yuan (€200,000) to the Chinese Red Cross as an initial emergency measure. |
