Association pour le droit à l'initiative économique
Adie is an association that provides assistance to help people excluded from the jobs market and the conventional banking system to create their own businesses and jobs using microcredit. It was set up in 1989 by Maria Nowak with the aim of adapting the microcredit principle to France. Particularly effective in the economies of the Third World, microcredit has enjoyed rapid expansion in Asia, Africa and Latin America. Today, millions of people across the world live from their work thanks to this type of finance. Microcredit has been gaining in popularity in the industrialized countries of Europe and North America over the last fifteen years.

Carrefour mobilizes to bring help to the Chinese people
An earthquake with a magnitude of 7.8 on the Richter scale struck China on Monday 12 May 2008 (at 2.28 pm local time). The epicentre was close to Wenchuan in Sichuan province, in the south west of the country. When the catastrophe was announced on Monday evening, the Carrefour Group - via its International Foundation - paid a grant of 2 million yuan (€200,000) to the Chinese Red Cross as an initial emergency measure. |
