Statutory objectives
The Carrefour International Foundation supports programmes around the world
A major international company such as the Carrefour Group plays a vital economic and social role in the countries in which it operates.
As well as meeting its customers’ needs and rewarding its employees and shareholders, it must also respond to non-commercial expectations and fulfil its responsibilities toward the community.
Our corporate foundation is an essential means of meeting this social commitment. Its vocation is to support projects around the world in the fields of emergency aid and reconstruction during and after natural or technological disasters, and to support the fight against exclusion, based on the Carrefour Group’s resources and business lines.
Fighting poverty and exclusion using Group resources:
* Food donations
The Foundation funds the opening of welfare grocery stores by refurbishing store buildings and equipment. In tandem, local sponsor networks in France and Belgium provide financial and logistical support and equipment.
In addition, in order to help food banks collect fresh produce without breaking the cold chain, the Carrefour International Foundation provides refrigerated trucks to the food banks.
* Micro-credit
The Carrefour International Foundation provides professional training and support in establishing micro-businesses through the granting of micro-credit related to the Group’s functions and business lines.
* Health and nutrition
The Foundation supports efforts to take practical action and to bring together local authorities, teachers, health professionals, parents, associations, and retailers to tackle public health issues.
* Inclusion support: school, professional training and support for street children
The Carrefour International Foundation supports associations that take in and care for vulnerable young teenagers and help them succeed at school or undertake professional training.

Carrefour mobilizes to bring help to the Chinese people
An earthquake with a magnitude of 7.8 on the Richter scale struck China on Monday 12 May 2008 (at 2.28 pm local time). The epicentre was close to Wenchuan in Sichuan province, in the south west of the country. When the catastrophe was announced on Monday evening, the Carrefour Group - via its International Foundation - paid a grant of 2 million yuan (€200,000) to the Chinese Red Cross as an initial emergency measure. |
