The Gulf of Uraba in Colombia has a number of poor communities of different kinds. Problems of insecurity, poverty and the growing of illegal crops are rife and are disrupting the social and economic life of the region. The social actions of the government and the UN aim to promote social and economic initiatives targeting the Gulf of Uraba.

The project’s objectives are both economic and social:

  • - to develop income from legal forms of production;
  • - to strengthen the social fabric and generate a sustainable socioeconomic model;
  • - to restore security and combat poverty in the region.

The organisations are divided into three lines of production: ecotourism, crafts and the modernisation of small-scale traditional fishing.
