At present, Argentina is undergoing a period of economic recovery after the serious financial crisis of 2001-2002.

The mission of Open Hands is to help the neediest people in the poorest neighbourhoods. By helping their members find work, it provides support to families.

Open Hands provides vocational training, advice and encouragement to those looking for work, as well as guidance and funding for the creation of micro-enterprises.

Carrefour Argentina gives assistance to the association’s work in a neighbourhood on the outskirts of Buenos Aires, with 1900 inhabitants and 375 families.

The programme is located near a Carrefour store and operates from an educational centre offering classes in needlework, weaving and agriculture. Carrefour Argentina has proposed opening a fourth workshop, on baking, where potential future employees of Carrefour can learn the necessary skills and where future micro-entrepreneurs can receive guidance and funding.

Thanks to assistance from the Carrefour International Foundation, which has put €60,000 euros into the initiative, 100 people will have the chance to attend 2-year professional inclusion programmes offered by the Open Hands association.
