The van will make it possible for food supplies to reach a greater number of charity organizations and allow volunteers to work in safer conditions.

The Carrefour Solidarity Foundation in partnership with the    Carrefour International Foundation has donated today a van with a 1,500 kilo load capacity to the Tarragona Food Bank. The presentation was attended  by the directors of Carrefour Tarragona and Reus, Pedro López and Jesús Bernet, the president of the Tarragona Food Bank, Eusebio Alonso and the director of the Carrefour Solidarity Foundation, Guillermo de Rueda, among others.

The donation of this vehicle, a 120 hp Jumper Chassis Cab, has two aims: to deliver food stuffs in best possible conditions to the charity organizations working with the Tarragona Food Bank and improve the safety of volunteers who distribute the supplies to more than 3,000 people in theprovince of Tarragona.

The president of the Tarragona Food Bank, Eusebio Alonso, stated that thanks to this new van “food supplies will be able to reach people who cannot come and collect them” because “even when we receive plenty of supplies from agro-food companies, there are always people left without food because they are not able to come and collect, and we cannot reach them all with our current van.”

The director of  theTarragona Carrefour hypermarket, Pedro López, expressed his “satisfaction to see in future the Tarragona Food Bank distribute food to more people.” He added that this donation made it possible “to note in real and practical terms the work that the Carrefour Solidarity Foundation carries out day by day.”

FESBAL has a total of 50 food banks, which, in 2006, distributed 55,000 tons of food which fed more than 800,000 people suffering from social deprivation. For the food supplies, FESBAL depends on contributions from companies like ours and from individuals as well as donations from the Spanish Farm Guarantee Fund.
