Romania : Helping the children victims of the floods going back to school - Mereu Aproape

The Carrefour Foundation supports the Foundation Mereu Aproape (« Always nearby ») to help children victims of the floods going back to school.

It’s been three years since Carrefour Romania and Foundation Mereu Aproape – “Always nearby” in English – began their collaboration around solidarity projects. Last year, their program “water flows, Romania stays standing” was very efficient since they arrived first on the scene of the catastrophe. Carrefour gave 24 tons of foodstuffs et its collaborators got mobilized to ensure that the products be correctly and quickly redistributed.

That’s why the Carrefour Foundation naturally decided to support a new project from the association called “Let me learn”. It aims at giving children the opportunity to go back to school despite of the havoc wreaked by the floods in June 2010 in Bacau, Suceava, Botosani, Neamt, Vaslui and Iasi. There are 1450 pupils coming from 12 different schools, who couldn’t get back to normal life after the catastrophe that happened several months ago. The objective of the association is to allow them to follow their studies, giving them pens and books and other school supplies in September. The project also aims at alerting public opinion which doesn’t seems interested by the project.
