Greece : The opening of a second Social Grocery
The opening of the Piraeus Social Grocery
The first food bank in Athens- which opened in December 2007 - has received nationwide recognition. Carrefour has teams dedicated to this project and its activities in collaboration with the Athens municipality meet a genuine need in a disadvantaged area of the city. In view of the excellent results achieved by the project, the Foundation decided to continue its commitment by co-financing a second food bank in conjunction with Carrefour Greece.
This food bank is open since September, 2008 in Piraeus (Greece's second largest city) in premises provided by the municipality. It initially provides support for 200 families for a period of 6 months.
By opening this second food bank Carrefour's presence will extend over an area that is home to 60% of the Greek population.
