From 17 May to 16 June 2007, Carrefour France hypermarkets supported efforts to combat child obesity in association with EPODE.
Since last May, Carrefour has organized fun, educational events during amateur football matches, thanks to the work of the Carrefour International Foundation. The aim is to explain and raise awareness of the importance of a healthy, balanced diet and the benefits of physical activity.
As a partner of the French Amateur Football League (LFA), Carrefour was keen to help put across EPODE’s message during tournaments by providing an appealing, fun and informative area for children and their parents.
In addition to its awareness-raising activities, stores are working toward improving the nutritional content of their own-brand products by reducing salt content; developing the use of wholemeal flour in bread production; reducing added sugars; improving the nutritional profile of products in the Carrefour Kids range and eliminating all artificial sweeteners in the range; developing an array of products adapted to babies, offering recipes developed in conjunction with paediatricians to help ensure a balanced diet for children aged 0-4 years old; and the development of a range that enables parents to prepare meals at affordable prices – the Carrefour Agir Nutrition range.
