Solidarity activities 2008
The Carrefour International Foundation supports various solidarity activities by Carrefour Colombia
In 2008, several actions have been engaged in thanks to the support of the Foundation. Since April, Colombia has been suffering from strong and constant rainfall, which has caused serious problems for disadvantaged populations in the major cities and villages on the banks of large rivers.
In Medellin, hundreds of people lost everything in floods and mud avalanches. Carrefour worked with the municipality and the government of Antioquia Province, and provided an area for customers to donate food supplies.
Also, in May, Bello - a town near Medellin - received goods (mattresses etc) to a value of 50 million pesos from the Carrefour International Foundation to help 1,300 families.
In addition, a very strong earthquake was felt across a large part of the country on May 24. Carrefour Colombia reacted immediately, distributing 350 food kits to those stricken by the disaster.
Lastly, at the beginning of June, Carrefour donated €20,000 to the Red Cross in non-perishable and perishable goods for the victims of winter in Colombia thanks to the support of the CIF.
