Carrefour Brazil is supporting the welfare grocery program
To prevent waste and demonstrate solidarity with the welfare grocery movement, Carrefour Brazil has introduced a section to manage food donations.
Carrefour Brazil is supporting the welfare grocery program set up by the Prefecture of San André(Greater São Paulo) to provide food to the needy. This support involves the Santo André Oratório store donating products that cannot be sold (because they are past their sell-by date, the packaging is damaged or they are no longer produced), but which are safe to eat. The products are transported and distributed by the Food Bank.
To ensure the quality of the items, the programme has a team of nutritionists and nutrition technicians from CRAISA (Santo André Regional Integrated Supply Company) who monitor the receipt, selection and distribution of the donated items on a daily basis.
The food bank helps 133 institutions including crèches, shelters, hostels, rehabilitation homes and low income households, giving food to nearly 35,000 people a month.
