Carrefour Singapore Charity Drive to Raise Funds

Carrefour Singapore Charity Drive to Raise Funds for Myanmar & China Disasters Victims.

On 2nd May 2008, tropical cyclone Nargis hit the coast of Myanmar and devastated large parts of the low-lying Irrawaddy delta, leaving at least 134,000 dead and 2 million left homeless or severely affected. 10 days later, on 12th May 2008, an 8.0 magnitude earthquake in China's south-western Sichuan province killed more than 60,000 people.

When news of the tragedies surfaced, many of our staff were deeply affected by the images they saw and wanted to help. Hence, in aid of the disasters victims, Carrefour Singapore helped raise funds for Singapore Red Cross from 30 May - 12 June 2008 at the store entrances of the 2 stores located at Suntec City & Plaza Singapura. All work was voluntary and all donations collected were donated 100%. Staffs were seen donating generously. In order to create a greater awareness, panels in several press advertisements were devoted to communicate this worthy cause to the public.

All efforts paid off when we saw donations coming from all walks of life, and from local to foreign currencies. Even though the needs of the victims are tremendous, and whatever we can donate is small, Carrefour Singapore sincerely believes that every little bit helps and will become a beam of hope and help the victims through this difficult time.
